Tayon Help

Thumbnails, captions and chapters for your videos

Choose a video's thumbnail, add captions yourself or have AI write and translate them, split it into chapters, and see how much of it people watch.

You’ll need: A video that has finished processing. AI captions need credits.

Every video you host on Tayon has a Details window. Use it to choose the picture people see before they press play, add captions, split the video into chapters, and check how it is being watched.

Open it with Details on any video marked Ready: in Media library on the Videos tab, or on the Videos page of e-Learning. Everything you set here applies wherever the video plays, on your sites, forms and courses.

It has four tabs.

#Thumbnail

The still image shown before the video starts.

  1. Choose Pick a frame from the video and click one of the five frames, or use Or upload your own image.
  2. Choose Save thumbnail.

Your own image can be JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB. A 16:9 image looks best. The new thumbnail can take a minute to show everywhere. Changing it is free.

#Captions & AI

#Upload captions you already have

If you have a subtitle file, upload it under Caption tracks. It must be a .vtt or .srt file, up to 1 MB. Uploading and deleting caption tracks is free.

#Have AI write them

Generate captions with AI listens to the video and writes captions in the language it is spoken in. It can also:

  • translate the captions into other languages, chosen under Also translate captions to (15 languages are offered);
  • Suggest a title and Suggest a description;
  • Create chapters and Find key moments.
  1. Under Language spoken in the video, pick the language. This is required.
  2. Pick any translations and extras you want.
  3. Check the cost shown under the options.
  4. Choose Generate — N credits.

AI captions cost 250 credits per language-minute. A 4-minute video captioned in its own language plus two translations is 4 × 3 = 12 language-minutes, or 3,000 credits. The exact number is shown, with your balance, before you confirm. If you don’t have enough credits, the button is disabled and Buy credits appears instead.

The AI usually finishes within a few minutes. While it works, the tab says so. Choose Check again to see whether the captions are in. A suggested title can be applied with Use this title.

If the video service refuses the request, nothing is charged.

#Chapters

Chapters appear on the player’s timeline so viewers can jump to the part they want.

  1. Choose Add chapter.
  2. Type a Chapter title and the time it starts, as minutes and seconds, such as 1:30.
  3. Repeat for each chapter. Each one ends where the next begins.
  4. Choose Save chapters.

A video can have up to 200 chapters. Every start time must be inside the video. Chapters are free.

#Stats

How the video has been watched over the last 30 days:

Views (30 days) How many times it was played
Watch time (30 days) Total time watched
Average watch How long a typical view lasts
Engagement A score for how much of the video people stay to watch
Most watched parts A bar chart over the length of the video; taller bars are the parts watched most

A new video shows Not enough views yet. until it has been watched a few times.

#When something doesn’t work

  • No Details button. The video is still processing. It appears once the video is Ready.
  • Could not reach the video service right now. Wait a moment and open the window again.
  • The thumbnail hasn’t changed on my website. The website editor keeps showing the old picture until you pick the video again. The published page shows the new one.
