Create a course and add lessons
Start a course, organise it into modules and lessons, attach videos, text and materials, and publish it.
probusinessYou’ll need: The Pro plan or above, and the e-Learning permission at Edit level or higher.
A course starts as a draft with just a title. You fill it with modules and lessons, then publish it when it is ready for students.
#Start the course
- Open Apps, then e-Learning.
- Choose New course.
- Type the Course title and choose Create.
The course opens on its page, with three tabs: Content, Students and Settings. It starts as a Draft, which students cannot see.
#Add modules and lessons
Everything on the Content tab is built from top to bottom.
- Type a module name in New module title, e.g. Getting started and choose Add module.
- Inside the module, type a name in New lesson title and choose Add lesson.
- Repeat for each lesson, then add the next module.
Use the up and down arrows to reorder modules and lessons. The pencil on a module opens Module settings, where you rename it and set when it opens.
#Fill in a lesson
Choose the pencil on a lesson to open its editor.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Lesson title | The name students see in the course content |
| Video | One of your course videos. Leave it on No video (text lesson) for a text-only lesson. You upload videos under Videos |
| …or a YouTube / Vimeo link | Uses a public video instead. These are not protected: anyone with the link can watch them on YouTube or Vimeo. Progress is still tracked |
| Lesson text (optional) | Plain text shown under the video, up to 50,000 characters |
| Estimated minutes | Shown to students as the lesson length |
| Visible to students | Untick to hide a lesson while you work on it. It shows as Hidden |
| Free preview (anyone can watch it before enrolling) | Lets visitors try the lesson from the course page |
| Release | When the lesson opens (below) |
#Add materials
Under Materials, add files students can download: choose a File or paste …or a link https://, give it a Name (optional), and choose Add. Files can be PDF, Office documents, images, ZIP or MP3, up to 20 MB each. Only enrolled students can download them.
#Release lessons over time
Release controls when a lesson or a whole module opens for each student:
| Option | Opens |
|---|---|
| Right away | As soon as they enroll |
| Days after enrolling | A set number of days after that student enrolled. Shows as Day 7, for example |
| On a date | On a fixed date for everyone. Shows as From that date |
When both the module and the lesson have a release setting, the later of the two wins.
#Publish
Choose Publish at the top of the course page. Tayon checks the course first and lists anything missing under This course cannot be published yet:
- The course needs a title.
- Add at least one visible lesson.
- The video of “…” is not ready yet. Wait for the video to finish processing, or pick another one.
Once published, the course appears in your academy’s catalogue. Two buttons replace Publish:
- Unlist keeps the course working for anyone with its link, but hides it from the catalogue.
- Unpublish takes it back to Draft.
Choose View in academy to open the course as students see it.
#Delete a course
Delete course is at the bottom of the Settings tab. Only e-Learning administrators see it. A course that still has active students cannot be deleted: revoke their access on the Students tab first.
